  i've got into a bit of a rut visiting the same half dozen or so sites most of the time.

  i'd love to hear your suggestions for good sites featuring popular science (esp' astronomy and evolutionary biology), natural history, poetry and english literature.

  and anything fun and surprising you might like to spring on me would be welcome too!

  i have read the site with great interest over the last few weeks.

  some interesting stuff thats for sure.. i have left the jehovah's witnesses (was almost going to say the 'truth') for some time now.

  i was one of the lucky ones that was baptised then faded, no humiliating disfellowshipping but nonetheless was very hard to get myself out.

  I hope that the rest of your family treats you better than your dad. Are you married or have siblings that are still in?

  It's good that you took control of your life by fading instead of getting disfellowshipped. I wish I had done that instead of challenging them head on - a no win situation. 

  You're right about the Witnesses having watered down everything from hours in field service to printed literature in quantity and quality. Let's hope that continues.

  skepticalscience.com is an excellent website on the subject of Global Warming. Most of its articles are a bit on the technical side but you can ignore that and go straight to their basic level argument list. That link provides a laundry list of global warming denier talking points and their rebuttals. I authored #50 in that list.

  Simon, may I suggest that people like atheist_R_stupid should be allowed to post here but with a strict limit as to the number of posts and threads they can make (1/10 per day?). This will allow this site to have the entertainment value they contribute without much of the negative aspects. While I realize that most faithful JWs aren't like him/her It could give an example of just how messed up some JWs are. Think of Renaia from years back.

  Let me say this to the stupid atheists....

  OK, here is my stupid 2 cents worth. 

  THE EARTH AND THE SUN. THE EARTH is older than the sun. THE BIBLE SAID THE SAME

  According to the Watchtower interpretation (against the actual meaning of the scripture) the sun and stars were not created on the fourth day; instead they were only made to appear in the sky on that day. Something to do with the water canopy according to Watchtower interpretation.

  THE SUN AND THE PLANETS CLOSE TO US? the same age... THE BIBLE SAID THE SAME

  The same age??? Didn't you just say in the previous sentence that the Earth was older?

  The order of life in evolution? the bible states the order of creation in that same order..

  Plants created on the third day before they could receive any light until the fourth day. I'm assuming that you believe, like the Watchtower, that the creative days were 7,000 years old.

  LIFE starting in africa? DITTO

  Life did not start in Africa even in Creationist teaching. Africa was not the origin of life, the Garden of Eden supposedly was and that was not in Africa but in the Middle East.

  You must be confusing the origin of our species based on fossils that have been discovered in Africa. In actuality Africa has been the starting point for many species of man - Homo Sapiens, Homo  Heidelbergensis, Homo Erectus/Ergaster, etc. These species would evolve first in Africa, then radiate out throughout Eurasia.

  Mitocondrial eve? DITTO (noah and his wife)

  Mitochondrial 'Eve' has been determined to have lived 120,000 and 156,000 years ago. She/they are supposed to be one of the few women who speciated into Homo Sapiens from a previous species.

  And if you don't want to believe in that date then why do you believe in it at all?

  WHite people's skin color starting just 7000 year and not as originally thought? ALSO the bible agrees as NOAH would have birthed the races.

  Skin color has not been dated by anyone let alone dated to 7,000 years ago. Changes in skin color from white to black and black to white were bound to happen in the ancient past whenever a lightly haired hominid migrated to or from Africa or Europe. That means it's bound to have happened several times throughout Hominid history (Hundreds of thousands of years).

  Dark skin has an advantage in people who wear little clothes in the blazing sun protecting them from skin cancer caused by ultraviolet radiation. Dark skin is not needed in other locations such as Europe.

  By the way, didn't Noah live 4,000 years ago and not 7,000?

  i find that when talking people who say they "used to be a jehovah's witness" they say words that show they have in fact, never been one.

  it's like a man that worked for the post office for 30 years in a main major urban hub like chicago or new york... and you ask him, "in your last position, what was your rdo?

  i would imagine the repetitive meetings, studies and door to door knocking would firmly root them in their beliefs.. yet, i've observed they either back out of challenging questions at times, or share a link to jay w org.. .

  I remember back in the 1970s that some JWs did not have a full understanding of all doctrines (Particularly the rationale for the 1914 doctrine). However, they had a simple grasp of the basic doctrines like soul and hell and some would be able to do some basic proof texting, though for the most part they had to rely on a publication to provide them a biblical verse.

  I hear it's worse now but I figure that almost everything about the Watchtower has gotten worse.

  It's possible that the Watchtower, realizing this, might have come up with the idea of having their teachings easily available in Internet form in order to bypass the ignorance of their members.
